A method for predicting fatigue life in welded structures that has the potential to save billions of dollars in the aerospace, automotive, bridge construction, shipbuilding, pipeline, and offshore oil rig industries has been reported by Battelle, Columbus, Ohio. Researcher Dr. Pingsha Dong has developed the Verity mesh-insensitive structural stress method, which enables reliable prediction of fatigue lives of welded structures regardless of complexity.
