A magnesium alloy stent that is absorbed within a few months of being implanted in an artery, propping open blocked leg arteries until it is no longer needed, has reportedly been developed by Biotronik, Lake Oswego, Oregon. This is said to be the first bioabsorbable metal stent tested in humans.

An absorbable polymer stent has been tested in humans, but reportedly does not appear to be as effective as the metal stent in propping open the artery. The absorbable metal stent is made of an alloy of 90% magnesium and 10% rare earth ...
