Thermoplastic replaces metal in auto engine chain tensioner.(POLYMERS/CERAMICS)

A polyamide thermoplastic designed for high strength at high temperatures has replaced metal, consolidated parts, and reduced system costs in a chain tensioner for automotive engines, reports DSM Engineering Plastics, Evansville, Ind. Stanyl TW341 offers better wear performance than high molecular weight PA66, provides the highest safety and durability factors, and allows for the reduction of noise generated by the chain.
