Some of the same manufacturing techniques that produce microchips have been applied to create a porous-silicon diode that may lead to improved betavoltaics, report researchers at BetaBatt Inc., Houston, Texas; the University of Toronto, Canada; the National Science Foundation, Washington, D.C.; and the University of Rochester, New York.
