Alloys with customized properties have been designed to meet the needs of many novel components of the Airbus A380, according to Alcan Aluminum, Canada. A weight reduction of 10% per aircraft was achieved by combining innovative alloys, Alcan's unique manufacturing capabilities for extra-large products, and new joining techniques.
