Vacuum plasma spraying (VPS) is a relatively new technique in which heat-softened or molten particles in sizes from 10 to 100 [micro]m are accelerated toward a substrate, where they flatten and solidify. VPS coatings generally exhibit higher densities than possible with other thermal spray processes. Control of the chamber atmosphere during the process facilitates a reduction in the amount of impurities and contaminants, and results in higher-quality deposits.
