Aluminum "super atoms" have their own periodic table.(MATERIALS SCIENCE/R & D)

Aluminum atom clusters that exhibit chemical properties similar to those of the single atoms of metallic and nonmetallic elements when reacted with iodine have reportedly been discovered by a research team sponsored by the Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio.

The finding is also significant because it reveals the potential of an enhanced chemistry based on a new periodic table of cluster elements called "super atoms." In the future, scientists may apply this chemistry to create new materials for both energy applications and medical devices.
