RE-doped thermal-barrier has greater phase stability.(SURFACE ENGINEERING)
Advanced Materials & Processes, October, 2005
Multicomponent, rare-earth-doped, perovskite-type thermal-barrier coating materials have been developed at NASA Glenn Research Center, Cleveland, Ohio. The coatings are designed to provide lower thermal conductivity, greater phase stability, and greater high-temperature capability than possible with yttria-partially stabilized zirconia Thermal-barrier coatings are thin ceramic layers that insulate air-cooled metallic components of heat engines from hot gases.
