A little over two years ago, David Bosarge, a math and science teacher at a local (Gainesville, Fla.) elementary school, contacted me and asked for help. He had been looking for some additional funding to allow him to purchase equipment for a physics laboratory experiment. The equipment, which is essentially a laboratory scale drag strip, would allow him to give fourth- and fifth-grade students a hands-on lab to demonstrate principles of acceleration, mass and aerodynamics.
