Ridges in Formula One racing car tires reportedly reduce friction and help ensure a smoother ride. This principle has now been adapted to fly casting line by scientists at Cardiff University's Manufacturing Engineering Centre (MEC), Cardiff, Wales, in cooperation with fishing line manufacturer BVG-Airflo, Brecon, Wales.
