A multilayer foil that enables reaction initiation for propellant ignition and joining of dissimilar materials has won a Nano 50 award from Nanotech Briefs for Reactive NanoTechnologies Inc., Hunt Valley, Md. When activated by a small pulse of local energy, the foil precisely delivers localized heat at temperatures up to 2000[degrees]C (3630[degrees]F) in thousandths of a second.
