A GMTex textile-reinforced glass-mat thermoplastic (GMT) composite pedestrian protection beam that weighs half as much as the steel design and reduces tooling costs by 40% has reportedly been developed by Quadrant Plastic Composites, Northville, Mich. The part won first place in the Society of Plastics Engineers 2005 Innovations Award for the Most Innovative Use of Plastics in the group's new Safety category.
