A new Variable Field Module (VFM) that applies an in-plane magnetic field to a material exceeding +2000 Oersted with <1 Oersted resolution, has reportedly been developed by Asylum Research, Santa Barbara, Calif. The VFM is useful for magnetic force microscopy, conductance, and other applications in which the material depends on the applied field.
