William Theodore Becker, 69, died peacefully at his home in Knoxville, Tenn., Jan. 5, 2006. Born January 24, 1936, in Champaign, Ill., he received his Ph.D. in metallurgical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He became an authority in the fields of mechanical properties and failure analysis of metals.
