A high-strength stainless steel alloy that resists corrosion has reportedly been developed by researchers from QuesTek Innovations LLC, Evanston, Ill., in research sponsored by the U.S. Dept. of Defense. The Ferrium S53 alloy could eliminate the need for coatings of cadmium and other potentially toxic materials to prevent corrosion on military aircraft.
