Drugs coated onto balloons open coronary arteries.(MPMD)

Drug-coated angioplasty balloons can keep narrowed leg arteries open, avoiding the need for a stent, according to early research at the University of Tuebingen, Germany. The drug-coated balloon concept has proven effective in opening previously stented coronary arteries. The balloon is coated with paclitaxel, which prevents the growth of scar tissue that can cause the vessels to renarrow.
