Bi-Cruciate knee system designed to restore motion.(MPMD)

Advanced Materials & Processes, July, 2006

Smith & Nephew Orthopaedic Reconstruction has announced the launch of the Journey Bi-Cruciate Stabilized Knee System, the first designed to restore natural knee motion. The system offers the additional durability of Smith & Nephew's proprietary alternate-bearing surface, Oxinium oxidized zirconium.

Oxinium is an advanced bearing technology created through a proprietary manufacturing process that transforms the zirconium surface to zirconium oxide, a ceramic that incorporates the best features of ceramic and metal while avoiding the limitations associated with either material. It exhibits hardness, low friction, and resistance to roughening and abrasion. For more information: Victor Rocha, Smith & Nephew, Memphis, TN 38116; tel: 901/399-6771; www.smith-nephew.com.
