Super-round ball developed for World Cup.(OF MATERIAL INTEREST)

The team of adidas, Herzogenaurach, Germany, and Bayer MaterialScience, Leverkusen, Germany, developed the soccer ball for the FIFA World Cup 2006, which was held in Germany June 9 to July 9. The goal of the project, says Bayer, was "to make a round soccer ball even rounder." The result: a high-tech product with the name Teamgeist ("Team Spirit" in English).

The first all-synthetic ball was jointly developed by adidas and Bayer for the World Cup in Mexico in 1986. Since then, they have produced a new model for every World Cup and European Championship meet.
