Multiaxial fiber-optic strain sensors that provide a real-time image of strain in composite pressure vessels has reportedly been developed by Blue Road Research, Gresham, Oregon, under an SBIR contract from the Missile Defense Agency, Alexandria, Va. Together with associated software analysis, the sensors can yield more precise information about the location and severity of damage.
