Advanced composites improve stiffness on flange of missile.(METALS/POLYMERS/CERAMICS)

An advanced composite aft flange design has been incorporated into a missile interceptor to reduce weight and improve stiffness, reports the Missile Defense Agency, Washington, D.C. The missile now carries hardware developed under an MDA research program, and the companies responsible for developing the component expect that more of their MDA-funded technologies could be included in future interceptors.
