A new class of material coating that offers superior performance for aluminum smelting and low-pressure die casting has reportedly been developed in an R & D partnership by Pyrotek Inc., Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and the University of Missouri-Rolla. They developed cost-effective, low-permeability ceramic and refractory components that can successfully withstand thermal shock, erosion, and corrosion during exposure to molten aluminum.
