Microdrilling method enables wells to reach natural gas.(BUSINESS TRENDS)

A U.S. Department of Energy-funded technology that could change the way America's oil and natural gas wells are drilled has been successfully demonstrated in the Midcontinent region. A specially designed hybrid "microhole" coiled tubing rig recently concluded the drilling of 25 test wells to penetrate a particularly intractable natural gas formation called the Niobrara in western Kansas and eastern Colorado.
