Free-forming process cuts titanium cost by a factor of five.(PROCESS TECHNOLOGY)

An innovative process to produce near-net-shape titanium alloy components at a cost approximately five times lower than casting has reportedly been developed by Material and Electrochemical Research (MER) Corp., Tucson, Ariz. Low Cost Free Formed Titanium Alloys (LCFTiA) eliminates many costly steps and utilizes only two unit operations to produce a near-net-shape titanium alloy component.
