Co-volume editors collaborate on trio of ASM Handbooks.(ASM NEWS)

Stephen D. Cramer, left, and Bernard S. Covino Jr. of the National Energy Technology Laboratory, U.S. Department of Energy, Albany, Ore., initiated the revision of the landmark 1987 ASM Handbook: Corrosion in 2000. Their tireless volunteer effort resulted in the three volumes they hold, culminating in the publication of Volume 13C in 2006.

"The measurables are staggering," says Charles Moosbrugger, ASM project manager for the corrosion volumes. "Steve and Bernie recruited and coordinated the efforts of 356 internationally known experts as authors, as well as 635 reviewers, producing 279 articles that fill nearly 3000 handbook pages with more than 3000 figures and 6000 tables.
