See-through concept car exposes all.(OF MATERIAL INTEREST)

The bodywork and floor of the new "eXasis" concept car are made of transparent plastic--Bayer MaterialScience's Makrolon polycarbonate. The cigar-shaped two-seater was developed by automotive visionary Frank M. Rinderknecht of Rinspeed AG, Zumikon, Switzerland, and the AutoCreative team at Bayer MaterialScience AG (BMS), Leverkusen, Germany.

The engine and aluminum chassis are "unashamedly exposed" for all to see. The 750 kg (1655 lb) creation of Rinspeed and BMS is powered by a two-cylinder 750 [cm.sup.3] (45 in.[.sup.3]) Weber engine (112 kW [150 hp]) and runs on bioethanol.
