Several years ago the National Cancer Institute made a major commitment to bringing advances in contemporary nanotechnology to bear on issues in cancer research, diagnosis, and treatment. A key part of this effort was the establishment in September 2005 of eight Centers of Cancer Nanotechnology Excellence (CCNEs).
