Tool developed to remotely repair plastic gas pipelines.(PROCESS TECHNOLOGY)

Advanced Materials & Processes, May, 2007

A unique tool that can remotely repair polyethylene natural gas distribution pipelines without disrupting natural gas flow has reportedly been developed by the National Energy Technology Laboratory, Pittsburgh, Pa., under a cost-shared project with Timberline Tool, Whitefish, Mont. The portable, lightweight tool has an open-jaw configuration that can fully encompass the pipe.

The tool applies a thermal-chemical patch to repair nicks and gouges or worn spots, without disruption to natural gas service. The tool also provides substantial cost savings, improved safety, and reduced environmental impact. For more information: David J.
