The world's first fully integrated fender module has been designed of a thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) compound called Daplen EF341AE, reports Borealis GmbH, Vienna, Austria. The module has been specifically tailored to meet exacting specifications for the new BMW X5. It is the first time that a fender has consolidated such parts and functions as headlamp reinforcements and wheel housing, cleaning systems, airbag sensors, and cooling devices.
