It is likely that rusting occurs more during the night when atmospheric moisture condenses on metal surfaces when the dew point is reached. On average, in the Midwest and middle Atlantic states up through Canada, a 5.5 to 8.3[degrees]C (10 to 15[degrees]F) drop in temperature when the daytime relative humidity is around 75% is sufficient to result in condensation at night.
