A family of inexpensive, [Al.sub.2][O.sub.3]-forming, high creep-strength austenitic stainless steels has reportedly been developed by researchers at the Materials Science and Technology Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, Tenn. The alloys are based on Fe-20Ni-14Cr-2.5Al, with strengthening achieved through nanodispersions of niobium carbides.
