Scheduled for launch in August 2007, the Phoenix Mars Mission is the first in NASA's Scout Program, designed to be highly innovative and relatively low-cost complements to major missions being planned as part of NASA's Mars exploration effort. The goal of Phoenix is to study the history of water and habitability potential in the Martian arctic's ice-rich soil.
