Crowley Maritime Corp. announced that Alex Sweeney was named vice president of safety and health. Sweeney moves from Seattle to Anchorage and reports to Charlie Nalen, vice president, environmental, safety and quality assurance. In his new position, Sweeney will continue to promote and develop the safety culture of Crowley's West Coast operations, including the company's extensive footprint in the Alaska marine and petroleum services industry.
Sweeney joined Crowley in 1980 and has more than 25 years experience in marine operations for Crowley on the east and west coasts. In 1995, he was promoted to director of Atlantic operations and in 1999 was relocated to Valdez and promoted to general manager, Valdez services. A year later, he was named vice president of the Valdez operation. He also served as vice president of marine operations.
