The Las Vegas sun may have been heating up sidewalks outside this year's Marine Aftermarket Accessories Trade Show (MAATS), but inside, several hot, new products were burning up showroom floors. In July, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) handed out seven Innovation Awards for aftermarket recreational-boating products.
Honorees were selected based on innovation, benefit to the marine industry/consumer, practicality and cost effectiveness. There were two awardees in the Electronics category: Navionics' Platinum Charting System, which allows navigators to transform charts into satellite photos of the local area, and Humminbird's 987c SI Combo, which features high-definition, side-scanning sonar (see page 90).
