BEHRINGER Spezielle Studiotechnik GmbH, and its U.S. distributor, Samson Technologies, apparently won another round in a protracted legal battle with Mackie Designs. On November 30 the U.S. District Court in Seattle, Washington, dismissed Mackie claims that Behringer had infringed on Mackie copyrights with its MX 8000 mixer.
In its dismissal of the copyright claim, the court noted that Mackie's circuit board designs were not covered by the U.S. copyright office. Scott Goodman, CEO of Samson, said, "We're pleased to have been vindicated by the Court in these matters." Mackie continues to press ahead with its suit, charging that Behringer violated its "trade dress" by manufacturing products with the "look and feel" of Mackie products. Roy Wemyss, Mackie chief...
