BP Amoco Chemicals to Divest Engineering Polymer and Carbon Fiber Businesses.(Brief Article)

In line with its strategy to focus on hydrocarbon-based businesses, BP Amoco in late April announced plans to divest in separate transactions both its high-performance engineering polymers business and its carbon fibers business.
"These are excellent businesses with robust growth, strong profit performance and leadership positions within their respective industries," said Bryan Sanderson, BP Amoco Chemicals Chief Executive. "As we continue focusing our chemical stream portfolio, now is the appropriate time to put these in the hands of owners who are positioned to realize their full strategic value."
