California State University at Fullerton (CSUF - California) held SRRS2 (Conference on Seismic Repair & Rehabilitation of Structures 2) on 21,22 March with a range of excellent technical papers and a small but very informational tabletop expo.
Professor Len Hollaway from the Dept. of Civil Engineering, University of Surrey in the UK, talked about "Design Concepts for Composite Plate Bonding and Column Confinement." He wrote a book about the use of composites in the infrastructure more than 10 years ago. A hoop wrap was applied to round columns to increase the compressive strength through confinement, and composite plates to beams to increase flexural capacity.
