AWEA SAYS TEXAS WIND PROJECT HERALDS NEW ROUND OF WIND ENERGY DEVELOPMENT.

The total generating capacity of wind power plants in the U.S. is likely to increase by 30% to 50% by the end of 2001, the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) said as it hailed an announcement by TXU Electric & Gas that it plans to buy power from a new 160 megawatt (MW) wind plant in West Texas.
"This announcement, about one of the largest wind power plants ever planned in the U.S., is only the first of several we anticipate over the next year and a half," said AWEA executive director Randall Swisher. "Wind energy is continuing to grow rapidly worldwide, and market conditions are ripe for expansion here as well."
