US Postal Service rider in the Tour de France, Lance Armstrong, put his stamp on the 2000 Tour on 23 July by winning the Tour de France for the second straight year (the second American to do so). Also, his recent Stage 19 individual time trial (TT) win was the second fastest time trial average speed in the Tour's 87-year history. Aboard his new carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite Trek Time Trial frame, Armstrong's average speed of 53.986 kph (33.5 mph) was second only to Greg LeMond, the only other American to win the Tour de France. LeMond's pace of 54.545 kph average speed to Versailles in 1989 was over a course that was less than half of Armstrong's 58.5km distance.
