Featured at the Awards ceremony on 27 March was Bertrand Picard, famous balloonist who was first to circle the world nonstop in his Breitling Orbiter 3. He said that composites were a big factor in his success in beating all other challengers, because they had decided on aluminum capsules. His team picked a hybrid Kevlar.carbon fiber and epoxy composite, making it the first pressurized composite capsule ever used.
The Award Criteria - candidates were eligible from anywhere in the world as long as they offer innovative advances in composites, particularly if they offered exceptional composite solutions in quality, market growth and the strength of their customer and supplier partnerships.
