Advanced Materials & Composites News, September, 2002

August 29, 2002 - Including the Boeing Business Jet, where blended winglets are a standard feature, more than 300 sets have been sold to equip Boeing 737 Next-Generation aircraft with carbon fiber composite winglets.

According to Boeing, Turkish Airlines has just ordered two Boeing 737-800 blended winglet sets with options for 50 more.

Aviation Partners Boeing's Patrick LaMoria, sales specialist, says that with average Boeing 737 trips of more than 850 nautical miles, the operator will see a 3% savings in fuel and a 5% reduction in engine maintenance.

APB is a joint venture between Aviation Partners Inc. and Boeing Co. that was established in June 1999 to offer Blended Winglet Technology for in-service Boeing commercial airplanes.
