November 2002 NTSB Hearings on American 587 Crash Focus on the Pilot, Not the Composite Fin Part 1 of 2.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) concluded four days of preliminary hearings in November into the 2001 crash of American flight 587, whose composite tail failed less than 2 minutes after takeoff from JFK Airport last November. The information presented at the NTSB meeting focused on rudder motions, the aircraft control system, pilot training, and also included some new information on the composite structure.
While some information was presented on the composite tail of the Airbus A300-600R aircraft, the NTSB evidence appears to indicate the CFRP composite vertical fin portion of the tail structure performed as designed and expected,.
