SPACE SHUTTLE INVESTIGATION UPDATE.

NASA said on February 10 that a piece of the Space Shuttle Columbia found last week East of Ft. Worth, Texas was from Columbia's left wing and that they hope it provides useful clues to the destruction of the crew and spacecraft. The wing section includes a 2-ft piece of carbon-carbon composite material that covers the leading edge of the wing.

NASA deputy associate administrator Michael Kostelnik called it "a significant recovery." No information was released on whether the C-C panel or the silica-fiber thermal tiles covering the rest of the wing had been burned through by the intense heat of re-entry or damaged by some unknown object's impact.
