Congress Studies Wind Power Siting Regulations.

July 27, 2003 - Congress is considering a rigid approval process for wind turbine projects. Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass) and Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn) are discussing joint legislation that would require local and state governments to approve the projects. Kennedy's target may also be a proposed $700 million Cape Wind plant planned for Nantucket Sound.
The Cape Wind Associates' project is the first proposed offshore wind energy farm for the U.S. and others are in work. There is no federal regulatory process for approving renewable energy projects. And local communities feel that they should have a vote on such projects.
