Carbon Fiber Producer Toray's Pretax Profit Triples in 2nd Qtr 2003.

August 5, 2003 - Toray Industries Inc. announced that its group pretax profit for the April-June quarter grew more than 300% from the same period in 2002, 8.42 billion yen ($70.1 Million) from 2.72 billion yen because of its restructuring efforts. Toray Industries is Japan's biggest synthetic fiber maker and well known for its carbon fiber and prepreg products in the CFRP composites business.
Toray also noted that its group operating profit jumped 123.0% to 9.43 billion yen and sales grew 6.3% to 251.73 billion yen ($2.1 Billion). The company said its strong quarterly results resulted from its corporate restructuring efforts and promotion of a new business plan focusing on developing new materials and products.
