Malaysia Views Opportunity to Make A400M Parts, May Buy Military Airlifter.

March 1, 2004 - Malaysia is positioning itself for a role in manufacturing components of the A400M through potential orders from the European Aeronautics Defence and Space Company (EADS) and might order the military airlift aircraft for its national purposes. Seven European air forces have placed orders for at least 180 of the A400M, which makes significant use of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites for primary structures.

EADS, which owns 80% of Airbus, offered the opportunities to Malaysia after extensive discussions over many months. Malaysia would use the A400M as a replacement for its military's current C-130H transport aircraft.
