Mr. Harris is a highly regarded leader in the pension fund community, known for critical analysis and advocacy on retirement funding and accounting issues and for pioneering application of sophisticated investment techniques, trading and risk control.

VIMCO, which oversees $60 billion in assets, mostly from the pension funds of parent Verizon Communications Inc., New York, set up a three-member management committee to assume Mr. Harris' duties until a replacement is named.
