Byline: GREG BAUMANN 1986: General Electric acquires RCA and becomes the parent company of NBC. Bob Wright is named president and CEO. 1996: MSNBC, a cable news partnership between NBC and Microsoft, premieres. 2002: NBC acquires Spanish-language network Telemundo, bilingual channel mun2, the Bravo cable channel and KNTV in Northern California.
2003: NBC and Vivendi Universal Entertainment merge, forming NBC Universal. Company controls USA Network, Sci Fi Channel and the Universal Studios movie and theme park operations. 2004: NBC Universal Television Studio formed through the union of NBC Studios and Universal Network Television. Mr. Zucker named president of NBC Universal Television Group.
