VETTRAINO The 2002 CART season began and ended in Mexico, and if the bookends were your only guides, you might be forgiven if you judged Championship Auto Racing Teams to be the most successful sporting enterprise ever undertaken. Attendance at the opener in Monterrey was surpassed only by the finale in Mexico City, where a race-day crowd reported at 176,866 established a new CART record and pushed the three-day total to 352,912.
