Byline: LARRY EDSALL Skip Thomas was a Chicago beer distributor who was able to retire at age 45. He tried golf, fishing and other retiree activities, and found fulfillment in none of them. Thomas had raced hydroplanes as a youngster, and was among the first in Illinois to buy a Dodge Viper.
