Byline: AL PEARCE Adam Petty was a charismatic 19-year-old when he died in a single-car crash during practice for a Busch Series race at Loudon, New Hampshire. This tragedy happened midmorning on May 12, 2000, the Friday of Mother's Day weekend. Adam's mother Pattie was at their family home in Trinity, North Carolina.
